One of the key ingredients to choosing a correct network marketing company is the product the company offers. Although some experts out there, because of the years of experience in network marketing and the success they have achieve in network marketing mentioned that the product is not an issue. Because they are so good at sponsoring people, they probably wouldn't care much about the product but focus more on the compensation plans.
I beg to differ however, as products is one of the main elements you could use to build your business.
Let us first talk about your target market. If you have a great product that you can introduce to your friends but the target market of the product is mainly for ladies, eg: skin care, facial products etc, who do you think is likely to join your business? Yes, ladies ! because they can use the products themselves and other ladies would most likely buy the skin care or facial products from them. If a guy is in the business, he would have a hard time selling the product or the plans to another guy because most of them are not pros in that particular niche. That is to say, you could lose half of your potential markets ! In another words, losing about half of what ou could be earning !
Secondly, how pratical is your product? If the products is not pratical, what is anyone going to do with it if they do not find a use for it? This could also mean that they need to sell the products through retailing so that they can clear or make full use of the money spent on the products itself and hope others would see a need in the products and buy from them. If they cannot retail the products, imagine how the products would pile up and taking spaces to converts rooms into a storeroom..
Thirdly, because network marketing is about ongoing residual income, it is best to have a consumable product which people needs every month as compared to a one time product. If it is a one time product, the marketer would be playing store and seeking for new people everytime to buy products from them so as to generate an income. If this is the case, how is one going to build a substantial residual income ?
Fourth, the priceline of your product and if it is easily duplicable. If you joined a network company who offers a low business start up cost, it will ultimately affect your income in the low run as the amount of revenue earned could not be distributed evenly among many generations. Worse is the fact if the product or service is easily duplicated. If A company offers X service at $45 a month, and B company offers X service at $40 a month, people wold flock to company B. Company A could lower its cost to $35 a month or maintain their stand. Now, What if C comes along and offers X service at $30 a month ?
These are just some fine examples on choosing the right network marketing company. You must therefore be sure you know your target market, research on your companies product and history before joining any network marketing company. The product itself would, in some way affect how you are going to establish yourself as a successful network marketer.

The product is important but I think the personality of the sales person is also very important. I ever seen man selling ladies products better than woman. The best are the combination of the company, products and the personality of the person.
